ABOUT US

Mike Baker while in Paris conceived MagicBroomstickTours in 2007.

He had had such a wonderful experience touring Paris on a Segway Personal Transporter that he decided Devonport had to have a Segway experience available.

After several months exploring his options and finding that the Segway was the only personal transporter that had the power to ride to the top of Mt Victoria he pushed the go button and instructed the importer to get him 6 Segway i2 personal transporters and hence MagicBroomstickTours on Devonport Wharf at the Studios of TheFlea88.2Fm (the low powered community station which Mike had started way back in 1998, transmitting from a little office in the basement of his Devonport home) started operation.

Mike was a great ‘new ideas’ man having been the promotions manager of Radio Hauraki way back in the early days.   Starting his radio career in Gisborne for the NZBC, Mike then worked in Radio in Brisbane Australia, coming back to Auckland to manage the then shore based Radio Hauraki, then on to Radio I, Radio Otago (4XO) Radio Central then 15 years spent at Radio Pacific, the first talk back station in Auckland.

Mike passed away on the 4th April 2009, he is very much missed by us all.  Mike left the MagicBroomstickTours  in the hands of wife Pauline.   ‘Dropped in at the deep end’, Pauline is enjoying meeting everyone who has so far had The Devonport Segway Experience and the challenge of running and growing MagicBroomstickTours.
